This site was originally set up in 2012 to display part of my collection of papermaking moulds. The collection amounted to about 200 pairs of which I have now photographed and posted the majority of the most attractive moulds.
In March 2019, I sold all but a few of the moulds to the Cropper Paper Foundation in Burneside, near Kendal in Cumbria. I have also donated a collection of papermaking items to the Foundation. This includes: several elm couching planks, couch and lay stools, large tables and benches previously used for sorting, rag cutting hurdle from Turkey Mill, Maidstone, hogs for stirring stuff in the vats; alloy plates used to separate posts and papers & felts, beater stir sticks, trolleys for moving packs of paper around the mill, items of test equipment, long lengths of thick 19th century Baltic Pine planks which were used for shelves and benches, buckets, hooks, books and other sundry items from Hayle Mill, stocks of hand-made paper, woollen papermaking felts, copper hand bowls and similar objects and a scale model of Hayle Mill.
Having been looking for a long term home for the moulds and equipment for many years, I am delighted with this outcome. Mark Cropper (www.cropper.com, www.instagram.com/paper.maker) has been collecting archives, moulds and other equipment for the Cropper Paper Foundation for some years now. He is developing a vision for the Cropper Paper Foundation which will be an important papermaking resource for the country and a visitor attraction for the village of Burneside which is little visited by the 16 million visitors a year travelling to the Lake District through the parish. I am looking forward to the realisation of this vision over the next few years.
Please note that I am now offering no moulds, felts or paper for sale.
Over the last few years I have also been broadening the scope of the site to include other papermaking information which I hope may be of interest.
If you have time, have a look at the FAQ and Glossary to the right which contain quite a lot of information about moulds.
I am not generally able to respond to the comments section as I do not visit the site often enough to keep up to date. If you have any queries, please email me.
